Line & Label x Meg

Founded in 2013 by artist & designer Kate O’Riley, Line & Label is designed and produced in Brooklyn, NY.

After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and spending over a decade in high-end ready-to-wear, Kate channeled her design sensibility into founding Line & Label. While the brand spans leather goods, textiles, and up-cycled garments, its heart lies in sculptural jewelry work.

Each piece, cast and fabricated in fine metals and stones, reflects her signature balance of artistry, craftsmanship, and subtle edge.

Rooted in Brooklyn’s creative spirit, Line & Label blends sustainability with thoughtful design, offering jewelry that feels both elevated and accessible.

As we welcome her collection into our stores, we’re excited to spotlight a maker whose work brings intention, individuality, and modern craft to every piece.

We asked Kate some questions...

Meg: What inspired the name Line & Label, and what meaning does it hold for you?

Kate: I ran a brick & mortar shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, for 12 years, and the name grew directly out of that experience.

I was designing my own line while curating other labels in the space. Even after closing the physical store at the end of 2024, the name stayed with me. It still feels true to the way I create and collaborate.

M: Following that, what inspired you to move into jewelry, and in what ways does this collection carry the essence of Line & Label?

K: I began making jewelry seriously in 2020, starting with wax carving and casting, creating rings that felt like tiny sculptures with endless possibilities.

These days, I’m more focused on fabrication: heating, bending, and hammering metal by hand. I love the immediacy of it. There’s a satisfaction in shaping a piece in real time, without waiting for it to be cast.

M: From texture to weight, how do the materials themselves guide the design of your jewelry?

K: I’ve never naturally gravitated toward delicate pieces, partly because creating truly dainty jewelry is its own intricate challenge.

I’m reminded of something painter Chuck Close once said: that ideas and creativity come from the act of working itself. I feel that deeply. I often begin with one concept, and through the process of making, a stronger, more compelling idea reveals itself.

M: What’s one piece in the collection that feels like your personal talisman, and why?

K: Right now, my favorite piece is the Kallos Cuff. It began as a commission from a friend who wanted something meaningful for the women in his family, and I set out to create a piece where you could truly see the handwork and feel its connection across generations.

I’m always most drawn to pieces that are made for someone specific. There's a different kind of intimacy and intention that comes through when I’m creating a custom piece.

M: From jewelry to textiles, your creativity covers it all…what items in your studio are essential to your process?

K: It’s a real mix! For clothing and leather pieces, I rely on my trusty Pfaff sewing machine that I’ve had since college, and it’s still the backbone of my studio. When it comes to jewelry, it’s all about metal, torches, and hammers. So many hammers! I’ve somehow become a bit of a hammer collector, but each one has its own personality and purpose.

M: What’s a small ritual or habit in your day that keeps you grounded creatively - something your customers might never guess about you?

K: My space is usually calm and organized, which keeps me grounded. And  I mostly work standing at my bench… in pajamas. It’s my unofficial studio uniform.

M: As both a designer and part of the Meg team, what does it mean to you to see Line & Label curated alongside Meg in our stores?

K: I feel it’s a natural fit! Meg’s values truly resonate with what I aim to do at Line & Label, and being part of the team while seeing my collection alongside Meg pieces feels really special.

M: Looking ahead, what’s next for Line & Label, and how do you see your creative journey evolving in the years to come?

K: That’s the exciting part about making jewelry…the possibilities feel endless.

I’d love to explore more fine jewelry in the future, which feels like a natural progression in my creative journey as a jeweler.

Bringing Line & Label into Meg feels like a natural extension of our shared vision for creativity, quality, and individuality.
